Ashley James Medical was established in 2021 as the sole trading name of Ashley James Redfern, a former 999 frontline emergency ambulance clinician providing independent professional medical services to private clients. Since incorporation, Ashley James Medical has developed into the structured medical provider you see today, delivering high-quality, professionally governed medical services across a diverse range of settings. Ashley is an autonomous pre-hospital emergency and urgent care clinician with a record of outstanding clinical practice. He is qualified to a foundation degree level with a Diploma in Pre-hospital Emergency and Urgent Care, placing him at Descriptor Level 'F' within the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (FPHC) Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) Skills Framework.

 

With over a decade of experience in healthcare - including many years on the frontline of the 999 ambulance services, he possesses a deep understanding of complex and challenging medical environments. He is an Associate Member of the College of Paramedics, and is registered with the Health Practice Associates Council (HPAC).

​

Ashley is highly experienced in event medical cover including for high-risk sporting events, complex repatriations, secure mental health, and VIP/HNW medical support. His expertise also spans TV and film production medical, night-time economy (NTE) support, and high-dependency (HDU) transport.

​

With additional qualifications in Rope Rescue, Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support, and Safe Administration of Lifesaving Medications, Ashley integrates advanced clinical skill with technical rescue knowledge. He utilised this unique background to build the robust governance and operational framework of this prestige medical provider from the ground up.

​

As a passionate and intuitive leader, Ashley maintains an organisational culture rooted in transparency, pride, and high standards. He leads a specially selected management team dedicated to ensuring the safety of patients, the satisfaction of staff, and the continued success of the organisation.

Andy is a highly experienced emergency care professional with a proven track record of leading successful private ambulance organisations. A qualified Hazardous Environment Medicine Paramedic, he is fully registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

​

His extensive career spans military service, frontline 999 ambulance operations, and the fire service. Andy excels in hostile and remote environments, having conducted complex technical rescue missions and delivered specialist training to personnel across the organisations he has served.

​

Known for his approachable and calm demeanor, Andy employs a passionate yet calculated management style. This allows for collected operational decision-making that prioritises the best interests of the organisation, its patients, and its staff.

​

Working alongside the CEO and senior leadership, Andy ensures that the organisation’s operational strategies are implemented with precision. His focus remains on maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-led service that responds to challenges in a timely and professional manner.

Mary is an experienced Paramedic with a diverse background spanning frontline 999 ambulance services, complex care, domiciliary care, and UK government departments.

​

As a qualified Level 5 Safeguarding Lead, Mary manages the daily clinical operations of the organisation while serving as our dedicated Safeguarding Lead. In her role as Clinical Lead Paramedic, she is responsible for the rigorous assessment of staff competencies, conducting Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), and overseeing Continued Professional Development (CPD).

 

She maintains our high standards through diligent patient care audits, clinical investigations, and the uncompromising enforcement of our clinical governance framework.

 

Mary is a key member of our internal Clinical Governance Team (CGT), collaborating with our Governance Compliance Pharmacist and Chief Medical Officer. Together, they oversee all clinical governance and compliance by reviewing Patient Group Directives (PGDs), investigating clinical incidents, and ensuring absolute medication and training compliance across the board.

​

A friendly and approachable leader, Mary maintains an open-door policy for all staff and clients. She provides a supportive environment for discussing clinical queries or safeguarding concerns, ensuring that transparency and safety remain at the heart of our practice.

​Dr Catherine Grant

Dr Catherine “Kate” Grant is a highly experienced General Practitioner with over 30 years in clinical practice, delivering a diverse portfolio across primary care, urgent care, and clinical education. Since 2018, she has also worked extensively within emergency medicine, managing undifferentiated acute presentations across all age groups, and currently practices full-time within an emergency department setting.

​

Her clinical approach is grounded in compassionate, patient-centred care, underpinned by evidence-based medicine and robust clinical judgement developed through decades of frontline experience. Her background spans hospital medicine, general practice, out-of-hours services, and locum roles. She also brings specialist experience in sexual health services, substance misuse (drugs and alcohol), homeless healthcare, and early cancer detection pathways.

 

Her postgraduate qualifications include diplomas in obstetrics and gynaecology, dermatology, reproductive healthcare, and genitourinary medicine.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Grant has contributed to medical education and knowledge dissemination as a producer and content creator for a widely recognised international podcast in internal medicine and primary care for over nine years. She is also actively involved in research and development within medical simulation training.

As Chief Medical Officer at Ashley James Medical, Dr Grant provides strategic clinical leadership and governance oversight. She leads the organisation’s Clinical Governance Team (CGT), with responsibility for the approval of clinical policies and procedures, and oversight of medication procurement in line with the company’s clinical governance framework.

Alex is a dedicated pharmacist with over a decade of experience in community pharmacy. She began her career in 2012 and worked across multiple sectors, predominantly in community pharmacy but also in warehouse vaccine distribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, developing extensive expertise in patient care and medicines management.

 

Her professional ethos is firmly rooted in delivering individual, patient-centred care. In her role with us as Governance Compliance Pharmacist, Alex continues to uphold this by working collaboratively alongside our Clinical Governance Team (CGT) to review and further develop our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Patient Group Directives (PGDs), ensuring safe, well-led, effective, and high-quality service delivery.

Emma serves as Operations Manager and Clinical Risk Consultant at Ashley James Medical, bringing together extensive frontline clinical expertise and advanced academic knowledge in safety and risk management. A registered Paramedic with significant 999 ambulance experience, she also holds a BSc (Hons) in Safety, Health and Environmental Management, positioning her as a recognised authority in clinical risk consultancy within the pre-hospital and event medical sector.

Acting as the critical interface between senior leadership and frontline operations, Emma ensures that the strategic directives of the leadership team and the Clinical Governance Team (CGT) are translated into safe, effective, and meticulously executed service delivery. She oversees the full spectrum of operational logistics, including detailed service planning, complex rostering, and client relationship management, ensuring consistency, reliability, and clinical excellence across all deployments.

 

Emma maintains comprehensive oversight of key operational assets, including vehicle fleet management, inventory control, and procurement. Her structured and systems-driven approach ensures that all clinical teams are fully equipped, compliant, and operationally ready to deliver care at the highest standard.

 

As the driving force behind Ashley James Medical’s Integrated Medical Risk System (IMRS), Emma leads the development and delivery of medical risk consultancy as both a standalone professional service and as part of integrated, end-to-end solutions. Under her direction, IMRS enables clients to access robust risk assessments, strategic planning, and governance support, seamlessly complemented by highly capable medical teams on the ground. This dual capability positions Ashley James Medical as a market leader in integrated medical risk management and operational delivery.

Sean Swan is a highly experienced Emergency Medical Technician with a distinguished career spanning decades within the UK 999 ambulance services. Throughout his frontline service, Sean has developed extensive operational expertise in emergency response, clinical care delivery, and service coordination across high-pressure environments.

​

During his tenure as a Station Officer, Sean held responsibility for the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of daily ambulance operations. This role required strong leadership, workforce management, and governance oversight, ensuring crews were operationally ready and clinical standards were consistently upheld. His experience at this level has equipped him with a deep understanding of system pressures, risk management, and the practical realities of delivering high-quality pre-hospital care.

​

As Area Service Manager (North) for Ashley James Medical, Sean leads regional growth and client engagement across the North of the UK. His remit includes business development, strategic client acquisition, and relationship management, ensuring that services are aligned with client needs while maintaining the organisation’s commitment to clinical excellence and professionalism.

 

Sean plays a key role in expanding the company’s footprint, building trusted partnerships, and representing the Ashley James Medical brand at a senior operational level.

GOVERNANCE FRAMEWORK

Ashley James Medical has one of the most robust clinical governance frameworks within the private medical sector which is overseen by our Clinical Governance Team (CGT), comprising a Governance Compliance Pharmacist, Clinical Lead Paramedic, and Chief Medical Officer. This structure ensures that Ashley James Medical maintains the highest standards of compliance, safety, and clinical effectiveness through a continuous, organisation-wide governance cycle—driving accountability from senior leadership to frontline clinicians, and embedding feedback, audit, and learning from practice back into strategic oversight.

​

Our Clinical Governance Team (CGT) is responsible for overseeing the organisation's continued review of all clinical and medication-related activities, policies and procedures, consulting on the implementation of new policies or procedures in collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team, auditing clinical outcomes, investigating any potential clinical concerns or complaints, and ensuring that the organisation's clinical governance framework as a whole is fit for purpose, and remains in-line with statutory regulation requirements.

​

Individually, each member of the CGT has their own roles and responsibilities within our organisation, such as:

​

  • Chief Medical Officer (Doctor) - is responsible for reviewing and signing-off on our medication policies, Patient Group Directives (PGDs), and acts as the organisation's authorised GMC registered prescriber for all medication acquisitions. 

​

  • Governance Compliance Pharmacist - is responsible for reviewing and consulting on all medication-related policies, procedures, and activities, including the storage and compliance of medications within the organisation.

​

  • Clinical Lead Paramedic - is responsible for auditing all clinical staff activities and reporting, investigating any potential clinical concerns, and ensuring that clinical staff remain up-to-date with all mandatory training and supporting them in maintaining their Continued Professional Development (CPD). Our Clinical Lead Paramedic, is also our organisation's qualified Level 5 Safeguarding Lead, and as such, they are responsible for quickly and correctly actioning any potential safeguarding concerns raised by the organisation's staff, consulting our Executive Leadership Team in matters relating to safeguarding policies/procedures, and ensuring that our staff remain up-to-date with all safeguarding training.
