Sustainability Policy

Ashley James Medical (Pre-Hospital Emergency Care)

1. Policy Statement

Ashley James Medical (Pre-Hospital Emergency Care) (“the Provider”) recognises its responsibility to operate in an environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable manner.

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact, promoting ethical procurement, and supporting sustainable healthcare practices throughout all areas of our business — including medical response, logistics, training, and event operations.

Our approach aligns with the UK Government’s Net Zero Strategy, the NHS “Delivering a Net Zero Health Service” Plan, and the principles of ISO 14001 Environmental Management.

2. Purpose and Scope

This policy applies to all activities, staff, contractors, suppliers, and partners associated with Ashley James Medical, including but not limited to:

  • Medical and clinical operations

  • Technical rescue and response services

  • Vehicle operations and logistics

  • Equipment procurement and storage

  • Office, training, and administrative functions

It aims to ensure that sustainability is integrated into every level of our decision-making and daily operations.

3. Our Commitments

Ashley James Medical will:

3.1 Environmental Sustainability

  • Reduce carbon emissions through efficient route planning, shared transport, and the use of low-emission or hybrid vehicles where feasible.

  • Minimise waste by promoting digital documentation, recycling, and reusing medical or event materials where safe and appropriate.

  • Use sustainable suppliers that prioritise recyclable, biodegradable, or ethically sourced products.

  • Optimise energy efficiency in offices and operational bases through LED lighting, timed heating, and responsible electricity use.

  • Prevent pollution by maintaining vehicles and equipment to the highest environmental and safety standards.

  • Dispose of clinical waste responsibly using licensed contractors, in full compliance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Hazardous Waste Regulations.

3.2 Social Sustainability

  • Promote health, safety, and wellbeing for staff, contractors, and the public.

  • Support local communities by sourcing services and supplies locally wherever possible.

  • Provide fair and ethical employment practices that respect diversity, equality, and inclusion.

  • Encourage continuous learning and environmental awareness through staff education and training.

3.3 Economic Sustainability

  • Invest in quality equipment designed for long-term durability and minimal waste.

  • Plan operations efficiently to maximise resource use and minimise unnecessary expenditure.

  • Work collaboratively with clients and partners to deliver sustainable healthcare and event solutions.

4. Sustainable Procurement

We will actively seek to engage suppliers and contractors who:

  • Demonstrate strong environmental and ethical performance

  • Offer products with minimal environmental impact

  • Use recyclable or reduced packaging

  • Adhere to modern slavery, anti-bribery, and fair labour standards

Procurement decisions will balance quality, safety, and sustainability to ensure best value without compromising ethical standards.

5. Transport and Logistics

  • Vehicle use will be planned efficiently to reduce mileage and fuel consumption.

  • Drivers will follow eco-driving techniques and regular vehicle maintenance schedules.

  • Where possible, remote meetings and digital communication tools will replace unnecessary travel.

  • Future fleet expansion will prioritise low-emission and hybrid vehicles.

6. Digital Transformation

Ashley James Medical is committed to reducing paper use and moving towards a digital-first workflow.

We will continue to:

  • Use electronic Patient Report Forms (PRFs), invoices, and communications

  • Employ secure digital systems to reduce printing

  • Provide clients with electronic documentation by default

7. Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

We will:

  • Regularly monitor our environmental performance

  • Set measurable objectives and review progress annually

  • Encourage feedback from staff and clients to identify new sustainability initiatives

  • Update this policy in line with technological advances, environmental legislation, and best practice

8. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Senior Management is responsible for policy oversight, implementation, and review.

  • All staff and contractors must comply with this policy and take reasonable steps to minimise waste, energy use, and pollution.

  • Suppliers and partners are expected to align with our sustainability standards and demonstrate their own environmental responsibility.

9. Communication and Awareness

This policy will be:

  • Displayed at our premises and available on our website

  • Included within our staff induction and governance documentation

  • Communicated to clients, partners, and suppliers upon request
